Jugsalai Municipal Council takes decisive action to combat improper waste disposal and promote sanitation

Jugsalai’s waste management initiative sees success with the transformation of Bata Chowk GVP Point, implementing door-to-door collection and public awareness campaigns.

JAMSHEDPUR – The Jugsalai Municipal Council has successfully revitalized the Bata Chowk Garbage Vulnerable Point (GVP) as part of its ongoing sanitation campaign.

The council’s Executive Officer spearheaded a comprehensive clean-up operation at the Chowk Bazaar location, addressing long-standing waste management issues.

This initiative, part of the "Safai Apna, Bimari Bhagao Campaign" under Swachh Bharat Mission Urban 2.0, aimed to tackle persistent cleanliness challenges in the area.

The operation included implementing a door-to-door waste collection system for local businesses, thorough sanitization, and the installation of informative banners. A public address system was also deployed to educate residents about proper waste disposal practices.

"Our goal is to create a sustainable waste management system that involves every citizen," stated Rajendra Kumar, Executive Officer of Jugsalai Municipal Council. "By transforming problematic areas like Bata Chowk, we’re setting a precedent for cleanliness across the city."

To ensure compliance, the area is now under constant surveillance, with CCTV cameras monitoring activities and a dedicated Swachhata Supervisor overseeing maintenance.

The council has issued a stern reminder to residents and businesses about the importance of waste segregation. Proper separation of various types of waste, including wet garbage, dry waste, and hazardous materials, is now mandatory for door-to-door collection.

"We’re not just cleaning up; we’re changing behaviors," explained Jyoti Punj, City Manager. "Our approach combines infrastructure improvements with community education to create lasting change."

Authorities have warned that non-compliance with waste management guidelines will result in penalties under the Jharkhand Municipality Act. This includes fines for improper disposal methods such as dumping or burning waste in public spaces.

The transformation of Bata Chowk GVP Point serves as a model for future cleanliness initiatives in Jugsalai and surrounding areas, demonstrating the impact of coordinated efforts between municipal authorities and citizens.
