Holy Sites Beckon: Jharkhand Sponsors Senior Pilgrims’ Journey

Government-backed trip takes 55 elderly devotees to Dwarka-Somnath temples

Jharkhand Tourism Development Corporation facilitates week-long spiritual expedition for senior citizens, fostering cultural heritage and religious tourism.

JAMSHEDPUR – A group of 55 senior citizens from East Singhbhum set off on a government-sponsored pilgrimage to the revered temples of Dwarka and Somnath.

The trip, arranged by the Jharkhand Tourism Development Corporation Limited, is designed for senior citizens who qualify for the Below Poverty Line (BPL) category.

Deputy Development Commissioner Manish Kumar and District Sports Officer Avinesh Tripathi presided over the flag-off ceremony of the much-awaited journey at the Collectorate premises in Jamshedpur.

"This pilgrimage symbolizes our dedication to the spiritual welfare of our elderly," Kumar stated during the send-off with ebullient faces all around.

The travelers will initially make their way to Hatia Railway Station in Ranchi before embarking on a train journey to their respective destinations as planned.

Scheduled from July 23 to July 30, 2024, the week-long expedition is designed to offer a deeply meaningful and spiritual experience for all those who take part in this journey sponsored by the state.

Amarnath Sharma has been chosen as the Nodal Officer to ensure the well-being of the pilgrims during their entire journey and he would guide the pilgrims too.

"Our main focus is to guarantee a secure and pleasant pilgrimage for these dedicated individuals," Sharma explained.

Assisting the group are Sushma Devi, a physical education teacher, along with Bandana Devi and an assistant, who are both fourth-class employees from the District Administration of East Singhbhum.

Officials hinted that this initiative showcases the Jharkhand government’s commitment to boosting religious tourism and providing assistance to seniors facing economic challenges.

"This pilgrimage not only fulfills spiritual aspirations but also fosters a sense of community among our elderly citizens," Tripathi commented smilingly.

As the bus pulled away, there was an undeniable sense of excitement in the air. All the pilgrims were eagerly looking forward to the incredible experiences that awaited them at Dwarka and Somnath and were seen cheering themselves up.
