Electrocution Claims Young Life at Shiva Temple in Adityapur
Adityapur temple tragedy raises questions about public safety and emergency response protocols in religious spaces.
JAMSHEDPUR – A heart-wrenching incident unfolded at a Shiva temple in Adityapur, Saraikela-Kharsawan district, resulting in the untimely demise of an eight-year-old boy.
The unfortunate event occurred on Monday evening around 6 PM when young Prasanjeet Sarkar was playing in the temple premises.
Eyewitnesses report that the child came into contact with a live electrical source, leading to his electrocution.
Shockingly, the boy reportedly struggled for nearly an hour before succumbing to his injuries, with no immediate assistance provided by bystanders or devotees present at the scene.
"It’s devastating that our child lost his life in a place of worship, and no one came forward to help," lamented a local resident.
The family, upon receiving the news an hour later, rushed Prasanjeet to TMH, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
Local resident Amit Kumar expressed his dismay, saying, "This tragedy highlights the urgent need for better safety measures in public spaces, especially those frequented by children."
The incident has sparked outrage among community members, with the family considering legal action against the temple committee for negligence.
Authorities have placed the body in TMH’s mortuary as investigations into the circumstances surrounding the electrocution continue.
The tragedy has cast a pall of sorrow over the colony, prompting calls for improved safety protocols at religious sites and public spaces.
