Drought Concerns Prompt High-Level Meeting in Jharkhand

CM Soren Addresses Below-Average Rainfall, Plans Relief for Farmers

Jharkhand government strategizes to tackle potential agricultural crisis as monsoon underperforms across the state. CM calls for preparedness and central assistance.

RANCHI – Chief Minister Hemant Soren convened an urgent meeting with senior officials to address the below-average monsoon rainfall in Jharkhand.

Chief Minister Hemant Soren led a high-level meeting to discuss the state’s underwhelming monsoon performance and its impact on agriculture.

Finance Minister Rameshwar Oraon and Agriculture Minister Deepika Pandey Singh attended the crucial session alongside senior officials.

Soren expressed concern over the deficient rainfall reported in most districts of Jharkhand.

"If this trend continues, we must be prepared to provide immediate relief to our farmers," the Chief Minister emphasized.

Officials were instructed to remain on high alert, closely monitoring rainfall patterns and crop sowing progress across all districts.

The CM highlighted the direct impact of weak monsoon on paddy and other crop cultivation, affecting a large number of farmers.

Soren directed the preparation of a comprehensive report detailing the agricultural implications of reduced rainfall.

"We will present this report forcefully at the NITI Aayog meeting to seek central government assistance for our farmers," Soren stated.

The Chief Minister called for a complete strategy to deal with prolonged rainfall deficiency, should the situation persist.

Irrigation project acceleration and alternative farming methods were suggested as potential mitigation measures.

L. Khiangte, Chief Secretary, and Avinash Kumar, Additional Chief Secretary to the CM, were among the key attendees at the meeting.
