Engineers Prepare for Rigorous Strength Testing of Initial Structure
The 252-crore infrastructure project promises to enhance connectivity across Jamshedpur, with completion expected within 18 months.
JAMSHEDPUR – The Mango flyover project marked a significant step forward with the successful casting of its first testing pillar on Tuesday.
Located in the Bakri Bazar complex between Dimna Road dividers, this pillar will undergo extensive strength testing over the next two to four weeks.
Project Details and Timeline
The 3.4-kilometer flyover, budgeted at 252 crores, will connect key areas of Jamshedpur:
• Terminals near Blue Bells School on Dimna Road
• Payal Cinema on New Purulia Road
• Sakchi to Marine Drive and Old Court, including a Swarnarekha River bridge
Construction is expected to finish within 1.5 years of its commencement.
Chief Minister Hemant Soren laid the online foundation stone in early 2023 at Gopal Maidan.
Testing and Construction Process
Engineers will subject the test pillar to 2.5 times its normal load capacity to ensure structural integrity.
"This rigorous testing is crucial for the safety and longevity of the flyover," stated a source. "Only after we’re satisfied with the results will we proceed with casting the remaining pillars."
The project operates under the EPC mode, with Dinesh Chandra R Agarwal and IBRA ISKCON’s joint venture overseeing design and execution.
Soil investigation work is nearly complete at two locations around the Mango roundabout.
Local Impact and Expectations
Residents express optimism about the project’s potential benefits.
Local business owner P Sharma commented, "We’re hopeful this flyover will ease traffic congestion and boost economic activity in the area."
The successful completion of this project is anticipated to significantly improve traffic flow and connectivity in Jamshedpur.
