MLA Saryu Roy’s Development Project Halted in Sidhgora Surya Mandir Area
Temple committee and locals protest against Saryu Roy’s beautification plans
Jamshedpur witnesses tension as Surya Mandir Committee blocks MLA-funded work at Shankh Maidan, citing disruption to religious activities.
JAMSHEDPUR – A development project initiated by MLA Saryu Roy at Shankh Maidan near Sidhgora Surya Mandir faced strong opposition from the temple committee and local residents on Monday.
"This beautification attempt will disrupt our regular religious events," stated a Surya Mandir Committee spokesperson, explaining their resistance.
The JNAC team, accompanied by a magistrate and police force, was forced to retreat when met with protests at the site.
BJP leaders, including Singh Bhupendra and Agarwal Pawan, joined the temple committee in blocking the administrative team’s entry.
"MLA Roy’s plans seem politically motivated rather than for genuine improvement," alleged Kumar Dinesh, former BJP president.
The committee claimed an ongoing Yagna and regular events at Shankh Maidan would be affected by the proposed installations.
Protesters staged a sit-in, preventing vehicles from entering the premises and creating a significant commotion.
The administration was unable to commence the MLA-funded work, which included installing additional conches and chairs.
This incident highlights the tension between local religious interests and political development initiatives in the area.
The situation remains unresolved, with both sides standing firm on their positions regarding the use of Shankh Maidan.
