JAMSHEDPUR – A 15-year-old boy, Vikram Hembram, suffered critical injuries in Kedo Village after falling from a mango tree and being impaled by a bamboo stake.
According to Vikram’s family members, the teenager was plucking mangoes from a tree near his residence when the unthinkable happened.
While attempting to move from one branch to another, the branch he was standing on suddenly broke, causing him to plummet straight down onto the bamboo boundary surrounding the property.
Immediate Response and Medical Care
The impact of the fall resulted in a pointed bamboo stake piercing through Vikram’s shoulder, leaving him critically injured.
Vikram’s friend, who witnessed the incident, immediately informed the family, and they rushed the injured boy to the Sadar Hospital Khasmahal.
After receiving first aid, Vikram was promptly referred to the Tata Main Hospital (TMH) for further treatment.
Upon admission, the medical team at TMH swiftly prepared for surgery to remove the bamboo impaled in Vikram’s shoulder.
The operation was successfully performed, and Vikram is currently recovering at the hospital.
Community Concerns and Practices
Vikram’s family members revealed that the boundary of their house was constructed using bamboo stakes, a common practice in the village.
The stakes were secured in an upright position and tied together with wire.
Unfortunately, Vikram’s fall resulted in him landing directly on one of these bamboo stakes, causing the severe injury.
Residents of the village expressed their concern over the incident, stating that while using bamboo or wood for boundary construction is a common practice, such a severe accident had never occurred before.
They expressed their well-wishes for Vikram’s speedy recovery.
