The deadlock over the deaths of contract worker Swapan Kumar Bera and security guard Prem Sagar Mahato ended after late-night talks on Saturday, with the management agreeing to a compensation of Rs 8 lakh each for the families.
JAMSHEDPUR – The deadlock over the tragic deaths of Swapan Kumar Bera and Prem Sagar Mahato, who died of cardiac arrest at Cross Limited Company, was resolved late Saturday night after extensive discussions.
The management agreed to pay Rs 8 lakh each to the families of the deceased workers.
The families had been agitating at the company gate since Saturday evening, led by JBKSS leaders Tarun Mahato, Srujan Haiburu, Raja Kalindi, Pradeep Kumar Mahato, Bindeshwar Mahato, and Tapan Mahato.
Initially, the families demanded Rs 25 lakh compensation, along with jobs and education for the children of the deceased up to the intermediate level.
The management did not agree to these demands, leading to heightened tensions.
The situation nearly went out of control multiple times, but intervention by Gamharia CO Kamal Kishore, Adityapur police station in-charge Nitin Kumar Singh, and Gamharia police station in-charge Raju helped maintain order.
Finally, the agitation ended at around 10 pm after the management agreed to the compensation amount.
The families then left with the bodies of their loved ones.
Representing the management in the talks were GM HR RK Giri, GM Sales Sandeep Kumar, and Manager Rajesh Pradhan.
This resolution brought an end to the standoff and provided some relief to the grieving families.
The incident highlights the need for better support and compensation frameworks for workers and their families in such situations.
The proactive approach of the authorities helped defuse the tension and reach an amicable solution.
