Militants Attack BSNL Fiber Optic Project in Ranchi, One Laborer Killed in McCluskieganj

Militants set fire to a container used in the BSNL fiber optic project, resulting in the death of a laborer and significant property damage.

A major incident occurred in McCluskieganj, Ranchi, as armed militants attacked a BSNL fiber optic project, leading to the death of a laborer and extensive property damage.

RANCHI – Amid the ongoing Lok Sabha elections in Jharkhand, armed militants carried out a significant attack on a BSNL fiber optic project in McCluskieganj, Ranchi district.

The incident took place at Dull Karam Kocha, where a container used for laying optical fiber was set ablaze, resulting in the death of a laborer named Sanjay Bhuiyan.

Rural SP Sumit Kumar Agarwal and SSP reached the site to investigate the matter, along with a forensic team.

According to SP Agarwal, the SIPL company was laying the optical fiber when four unidentified militants attacked on Tuesday night around 9:43 pm.

The militants, armed and carrying petrol in bottles, spread terror by firing shots before setting the container on fire.

The extremists then shot at the container’s front tire, ensuring it was completely engulfed in flames.

A rescue team from CCL was called, but the container and its contents, including an HDD machine and DG tracker, were completely burnt.

The estimated loss from the arson is around one crore rupees.

During the attack, all laborers fled to save their lives except Sanjay Bhuiyan, who was hiding inside the container and was burnt alive.

Other laborers, including Operator Akhilesh Thakur and several Bhuiyan family members, managed to escape.

The next morning, contractor employees found Sanjay Bhuiyan’s burnt body inside the container and informed the police.

Previously, on April 19, militants had left a pamphlet near Chama, warning the contractor to stop the work and threatening consequences if the police were informed.

The pamphlet, issued by the Communist Party of India Maoist Koyal Sankh Zonal Committee, demanded that the contractor cease operations and negotiate with the organization.

The incident highlights the ongoing security challenges in the region, especially during the election period.
