Extreme Heatwave Triggers Surge in Heat Stroke Cases in Steel City

Healthcare professionals urge residents to take precautions as temperatures soar, causing increased hospitalizations.

The Steel City is experiencing a severe heatwave, with temperatures reaching 42.8 degrees Celsius, five degrees above normal.

JAMSHEDPUR – The city is currently facing a severe heatwave, which has led to a notable increase in heat stroke cases and hospitalizations.

Recent reports have shown an increase in admissions at nursing homes and private hospitals. Patients are seeking care for conditions such as dehydration, cough-cold, seasonal flu, gastroenteritis, and jaundice.

A representative from MGM Medical College and Hospital mentioned that the city is currently experiencing a daily average of two to three hospitalizations caused by heat stroke. Patients are showing signs of dehydration, mild fever, and cough.

Given the rising temperatures, it’s important for residents to be mindful of their exposure to direct sunlight and to stay hydrated by drinking enough fluids.

Additionally, maintaining a balanced and nutritious diet is crucial.

The Sonari meteorological office expects the maximum temperatures to keep increasing as the prevailing westerly winds persist across the state. Unfortunately, there are no signs of rain in the near future.

The office has decided to extend the heatwave warning for an extra two days, drawing attention to the severe conditions in the Chottanagpur plateau region, which are particularly impacting parts of Kolhan.

It is important for residents to take necessary precautions to minimize the impact of the heatwave. This includes staying indoors during the hottest hours of the day and ensuring proper hydration.

With the city facing ongoing difficulties caused by the rising temperatures, the community is staying vigilant and healthcare professionals are stressing the need to seek medical help for heat-related illnesses.
