JMM’s Samir Mohanty Ready to Take on ‘Dronacharya’ in Jamshedpur Electoral Battle

Samir Mohanty to contest from Jamshedpur Lok Sabha seat on JMM ticket

Samir Mohanty, the MLA from Baharagora, has been nominated by the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) to contest the upcoming Lok Sabha elections from Jamshedpur. The announcement comes 41 days after the elections were declared. Mohanty, a seasoned politician with a diverse political history, reflects on his unexpected candidacy and expresses a readiness to face the electoral challenge with the lessons learned from past mentors and rivals.

JAMSHEDPUR – Samir Mohanty, who recently secured the JMM ticket to contest the Lok Sabha elections from Jamshedpur, spoke about his unexpected nomination and his readiness to tackle the electoral battle ahead.

After the announcement of his candidacy, Mohanty shared his initial disbelief and surprise at being chosen for such a significant political role.

He reminisced about his educational journey, starting from a small village in Chakulia, progressing through government schooling, and eventually earning a commerce degree.

Mohanty’s political career began with his involvement in the JMM, where he was recognized as a spirited and confrontational leader.

His shift to the AJSU Party in 2005 marked the beginning of a series of party changes, which included a stint with the JVM and the BJP, before returning to JMM to win the assembly seat.

A pivotal figure in his political career, Bidyut Baran Mahato, was both a mentor and a competitor, having taught him valuable political lessons.

"Like the epic characters of Mahabharata, where Dronacharya taught Arjun the art of warfare, I find myself in a similar situation with my mentors," Mohanty explained, drawing parallels between his political journey and legendary tales.

He also stressed the importance of maintaining decorum in the heat of the electoral contest, emphasizing his commitment to ethical campaigning.

"Voting is not just about winning or losing; it’s about representing and serving the community with integrity," he stated, expressing his dedication to the principles of fair play and community service.
