EC Empowers Citizens to Report Model Code Violations Through C-Vigil App

Anonymous Complaints and Prompt Action Promised, Ensuring Fair Lok Sabha Elections 2024

The Election Commission has introduced the C-Vigil mobile app as part of its efforts to guarantee a transparent, fair, and independent electoral process for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in 2024. This innovative platform aims to empower citizens by providing them with a means to report any violations of the Model Code of Conduct, thereby underscoring the crucial role of voter vigilance in maintaining the integrity of democratic elections.

JAMSHEDPUR – In a significant move to safeguard the integrity of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in 2024, the Election Commission has launched the C-Vigil mobile app, a powerful tool that empowers citizens to report any breaches of the Model Code of Conduct.

By facilitating swift and efficient lodging of complaints, the app underscores the importance of voter participation in upholding the principles of democracy and ensuring a fair electoral process.

The Election Commission has emphasized the confidentiality of complainants’ personal details, assuring users that their information will not be disclosed to the public.

Voters are encouraged to actively engage in the electoral process by serving as the Commission’s "eyes, nose, and ears," contributing to the creation of a transparent and equitable election environment.

To lodge a complaint through the C-Vigil app, users can simply download it from their mobile play store or app store and submit live photos or videos as evidence of any misconduct they witness.

The app allows individuals to remain anonymous while filing complaints, although providing a name and mobile number enables them to track the progress of their complaint within the app.

Common grievances that can be reported through the C-Vigil app encompass a wide range of electoral misconduct, including instances of money distribution, gift/coupon distribution, liquor distribution, and the unauthorized distribution of campaign materials.

Additionally, complaints can be lodged regarding the placement of unauthorized posters or banners, the holding of unpermitted campaign meetings, and the use of religious or inflammatory rhetoric to influence voters.

Upon receiving a complaint, the Election Commission is committed to taking prompt action, with a stringent time frame of 100 minutes for processing.

Once a complaint is lodged, the Returning Officer dispatches the nearest Flying Squad Team (FST) to investigate the reported violation.

After conducting a preliminary verification, the complaint is forwarded to the Returning Officer’s portal for further review and resolution.

The introduction of the C-Vigil app represents a pivotal step in upholding the principles of democracy and ensuring electoral integrity.

By empowering citizens to report violations and facilitating swift action, the Election Commission demonstrates its unwavering commitment to a free and fair electoral process.

As the nation prepares for the Lok Sabha elections in 2024, citizens are urged to utilize the C-Vigil app to actively participate in safeguarding the sanctity of democratic governance.

The broad scope of complaints eligible for submission through the app ensures that various forms of electoral misconduct can be effectively addressed, contributing to a more transparent and accountable election environment.
