XLRI Hosts Sarthana: The Mentor Meet for PGDM(GM) Students

Industry Mentors Engage with Aspiring Professionals at Oldest B-School

XLRI, India’s oldest B-school, organized Sarthana – The Mentor Meet on March 16 and 17 for its PGDM(GM) course, connecting students with mentors from various industries worldwide to provide them with the best industry exposure.

JAMSHEDPUR – XLRI Jamshedpur hosted Sarthana, its Mentor Meet on Tuesday where the mentors and mentees connected with each other.

The day’s formal events were energetically kicked off by hosts Mehak Singh and Rakshit Mehta, who invited Keynote Speaker Nishat Moheb Usmani, an associate partner at KPMG and their Chief of Partner Learning.

Her speech on "Building The Future You" focused on four fundamental tenets: self-awareness, resilience, having a growth mindset, and the ability to change our minds when challenged with new information.

The next day started early with a yoga session conducted by Shatakshi, a PGDM(GM) batch student and an Art of Living coach, while some mentors enjoyed the campus and its 75-year heritage.

Prof. Sunil Sarangi articulated the history of mentorship, starting from Odysseus’ journey and how the original "Mentor" guided his son Telemachus. The professors then welcomed the mentors individually, followed by rounds of ‘Bingo’ and a gala dinner where conversations continued late into the night.

Maj Rupinder Kaur, the initiative’s architect, described the importance of mentors and how she had shaped the program, emphasizing the need to actively seek out mentors in one’s life.

Professor Kanagaraj, the visionary behind the initiative, explained how the mentorship program aided aspiring students in making career transitions, describing its history and the vision it aims to achieve in the coming years.

The event kicked off with hosts Mitu Gandhi and Devesh Lall, followed by a lively performance from the student band. Inaugural addresses were given by Professors Kanagaraj, Sunil Sarangi, and Maj Rupinder Kaur.

The mentors and mentees connect at the beginning of the academic year and continue this relationship through the one-year program, building their network in the industry and gaining practical wisdom about their chosen industry.
