BJP Unveils Second List for Lok Sabha Elections
BJP Releases 72 More Candidates, Uncertainty Over Three Jharkhand Seats Persists
With the Lok Sabha elections approaching, BJP’s second list leaves Chatra, Dhanbad, and Giridih seats in suspense.
RANCHI – As the Lok Sabha elections draw near, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has publicized its second list of candidates, adding 72 names for various constituencies across the nation. However, this announcement leaves the fate of Chatra, Dhanbad, and Giridih seats unaddressed, sparking speculation and uncertainty. In 2019, these seats were clinched by Sunil Singh for Chatra and PN Singh for Dhanbad, while Chandra Prakash Choudhary of the AJSU, a BJP ally, secured Giridih.
The omission of these seats from the latest list has fueled efforts among several BJP leaders vying for nominations in Chatra and Dhanbad. The party now has candidates for 267 seats, spanning regions such as Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Delhi, Gujarat, among others. This follows the initial announcement on March 2, covering 195 seats, including 11 in Jharkhand.
Meanwhile, the India Alliance in Jharkhand, despite claims of a decided seat-sharing formula, faces disagreements over Lohardaga, Palamu, and Chatra seats. Senior members anticipate a resolution within two days, after which candidate names will be disclosed.
BJP’s swift candidate announcements, totaling 267 within ten days, seemingly provide a psychological advantage amidst the controversy surrounding Hemant Soren’s arrest in a land scam. Despite assertions from India Alliance leaders predicting BJP’s defeat in Jharkhand, spurred by comments from Basant Soren and visible campaigning efforts by Kalpana Soren and Chief Minister Champai Soren, BJP remains confident in securing all 14 state seats.
