Sahay Emphasizes India’s Unique Avian Diversity in University Talks
India’s rich biodiversity and birdwatching potential highlighted by naturalist A.K. Sahay during visits to educational institutions, including Cooperative College in Jamshedpur.
JAMSHEDPUR – Renowned naturalist A.K. Sahay shared his vast knowledge on India’s exceptional bird varieties with students across four educational institutions. At Cooperative College in Jamshedpur, the naturalist highlighted India’s two exclusive Moist Deciduous forests.
He noted that India is a global birding hotspot due to its diverse habitats. These diverse avian habitats range from Alpine forests to dry deciduous landscapes. Emphasizing India’s significance, Sahay noted the global avian count of approximately 10,000 species.
India notably harbors around 1,500 of these, including migratory birds. Sahay stressed the collective responsibility of students in protecting forests and preserving bird habitats. Emphasizing practicality, he cautioned against the overuse of zoom with telephoto lenses when photographing birds in flocks.
