CHAKRADHARPUR – In a grave incident, Tapan Kumar Vishwas, a track maintainer under the Chaibasa PWE in the Chakradharpur division, lost his life while performing winter patrol duties.

He was tragically struck by a train at Pandrasali Sanjay Pulia, located at kilometer 296/17A, a spot known for lacking safety measures.

This area is part of the railway’s third line, where no protective cess is present, underlining the perilous conditions faced by workers.

In response to the tragedy, the All India Railway Track Maintainers Union has highlighted the absence of essential safety equipment for track maintainers.

The union’s statement emphasized the railway administration’s neglect in providing necessary protection for their workers.

It has put forward an urgent request for the provision of safety gear to all patrolmen in the Chakradharpur division to prevent further accidents.

The demand stresses the critical need for immediate action to safeguard the lives of track maintainers.

Moreover, the union has expressed its readiness to protest for the acquisition of protective devices, signaling a potential escalation if their demands are not met.
