Supreme Court Collegium Recommends Arun Kumar Rai for Jharkhand HC
Judicial officer Arun Kumar Rai’s appointment as a judge of the Jharkhand High Court has been recommended by the Supreme Court Collegium, headed by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud.
RANCHI – The Supreme Court Collegium, under the leadership of Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, has endorsed the appointment of judicial officer Arun Kumar Rai as a judge of the Jharkhand High Court.
This significant recommendation was announced on Thursday, marking a key development in the Indian judiciary.
Chief Justice of Jharkhand High Court, along with his two senior-most colleagues, had initially proposed Rai’s appointment on September 13, 2023.
In alignment with the procedural memorandum, the Supreme Court Collegium consulted a judge from the apex court who is well-acquainted with the Jharkhand High Court cases.
The Collegium thoroughly reviewed materials on record, which included the opinions of the counsel-judge and the observations from the Justice Department attached to the file.
According to the information shared on the Supreme Court’s website, the Department of Justice has positively acknowledged Rai’s personal and professional reputation, noting his integrity and lack of adverse findings.
Arun Kumar Rai’s judicial service commenced on May 5, 2012, following over 15 years of legal practice in criminal and civil matters in both trial and High Courts in Delhi.
The Chief Justice of Jharkhand High Court’s Judgment Evaluation Committee has appraised Rai’s judgment writing skills as ‘good.
Throughout his career, Rai has maintained a consistent ‘very good’ rating in his Annual Confidential Reports (ACR).
Furthermore, the Supreme Court Collegium highlighted that both the Chief Minister and the Governor of Jharkhand have concurred with Rai’s nomination.
