Marathon Security Review Held as Naxal Influence Weakens in Region

CHAIBASA – Jharkhand’s Director General of Police, Tadasha Mishra, visited the Kolhan divisional headquarters in Chaibasa on Friday for a one-day tour aimed at preparing a decisive push against Naxalites in the region. She held a detailed review of the security situation, anti-Naxal operations and law-and-order arrangements at the Superintendent of Police office auditorium inside the district collectorate.
The high-level meeting stretched for several hours, with officials deliberating on every aspect of security in the area. Kolhan DIG Anuranjan Kispotta, Deputy Commissioner Manish Kumar and Superintendent of Police Amit Renu welcomed the DGP on her arrival. Senior CRPF officers, deputy superintendents of police and representatives of various security agencies also attended the meeting.
According to sources, the review covered the current activities and strategy of Naxalites across West Singhbhum, Seraikela-Kharsawan and East Singhbhum. Officials also discussed the deployment of security forces and the outline of an upcoming operation. Particular attention was given to security arrangements in border and forest areas.
DGP Mishra directed that surveillance and intelligence networks be strengthened further along areas bordering Odisha and other neighbouring regions. She said police and the administration should jointly run confidence-building campaigns in Naxal-affected villages so that development work can proceed without hindrance.
She said strict action would be taken against anyone obstructing road, health, education or other development projects. However, she added that securing development work remains among the state government’s top priorities and that no negligence in this regard would be tolerated.
The meeting also covered better coordination between the CRPF and Jharkhand Police, new search-operation strategies, effective use of modern technological resources and improving quick decision-making capability in the field. The DGP instructed officers to establish stronger coordination among security forces to make the anti-Naxal campaign more effective, with the aim of making Kolhan entirely Naxal-free at the earliest.
Following the meeting, West Singhbhum SP Amit Renu spoke to the media. He said police and security forces have carried out several successful operations in recent months, significantly weakening Naxalites in the region. He said Naxal organisations have since broken up into smaller factions and moved out of the area.
“An important agenda item at today’s meeting was the remaining Naxal factions. Stricter action will be taken against these groups in the coming days,” Amit Renu said. He added that security planning would also be carried out keeping upcoming festivals and high-focus periods in mind, with additional forces and patrolling to be deployed to maintain peace.
Meanwhile, the visit comes days after Jharkhand police leadership saw a reshuffle, with strict directives on law and order issued by Chief Minister Hemant Soren. Kolhan DIG had separately reviewed the DD Bar murder case investigation. In a related development, political leaders have also raised questions over ministers’ security arrangements in the state. The Seraikela district had recently seen the Kapali shooting case solved within 24 hours. Weather authorities had also warned of heavy rain in West Singhbhum and other districts this week.
