Soren’s Advocate Requests Withdrawal of Petition Challenging Jharkhand High Court’s Order
The Supreme Court on Monday accepted former Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren’s request to withdraw his Special Leave Petition (SLP) challenging the Jharkhand High Court’s order, which had denied him permission to attend the state assembly session while in judicial custody.
RANCHI – In a significant development, former Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren’s SLP petition was heard by a division bench of the Supreme Court, comprising Justices Surya Kant and KV Vishwanathan.
During the proceedings, Soren’s advocate, Pragya Singh Baghel, requested the withdrawal of the petition, which the court granted.
The SLP had been filed by Hemant Soren to challenge the Jharkhand High Court’s decision, which had upheld the PMLA Court’s ruling, denying him permission to attend the budget session of the Jharkhand Assembly earlier this year.
Soren, who is currently in judicial custody on charges of money laundering, had sought permission from both the PMLA Court and the High Court to participate in the crucial assembly session.
However, both courts had rejected his plea, effectively barring him from attending the proceedings as an elected representative.
