Hemant Soren Challenges Ranchi Court Summons

Jharkhand’s former CM contests legal notice over ED disregard

In a significant legal development, former Chief Minister Hemant Soren has contested the summons issued by a Ranchi court for ignoring a directive from the Enforcement Directorate. This challenge has been elevated to the Jharkhand High Court.

RANCHI – Hemant Soren has taken his legal battle to the Jharkhand High Court, opposing the summons from a Ranchi court related to disregarding an Enforcement Directorate (ED) notification.

This move by Soren comes after the Ranchi court recognized the allegations against him for not adhering to the ED’s summons.

The case against the former Chief Minister was initiated by Debabrata Jha, the Assistant Director of the ED, citing Soren’s non-compliance with the agency’s call.

The court responded to this complaint by acknowledging it under Section 174 of the Indian Penal Code.

This complaint, lodged under Section 174 of the IPC and the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) Act 63, was made public on February 19, demonstrating the legal pressures Soren faces.

Adding to his challenges, Soren was recently taken into custody by the ED after a prolonged interrogation over a land scam case, marking a significant turn in the former Chief Minister’s political and legal struggles.

This legal entanglement showcases a moment of accountability and legal scrutiny for Hemant Soren, embroiled in allegations of non-compliance and legal defiance.
