Jugsalai Residents Demand Justice for Hit-and-Run Victim
Local man’s hit-and-run death near Tata Pigment Gate sparks outcry for justice and compensation.
JAMSHEDPUR – In a tragic incident, Vikas Kumar, a resident near Baghbeda Gadabasa Hanuman Temple, lost his life in a hit-and-run accident on Tuesday night.
The accident occurred near Tata Pigment Gate under the jurisdiction of the Jugsalai police station.
Following the incident, on Wednesday morning, local residents, alongside the bereaved family, gathered at the police station demanding justice and compensation for Vikas’s family.
Vikas, known as the sole breadwinner for his impoverished family, was struck by an unknown vehicle while returning with a friend, Chintu, from Bistupur to Bagbera on a bike.
Chintu, who was driving the bike during the incident, sustained injuries and is currently receiving treatment at TMH.
The family insisted on withholding the post-mortem until compensation was assured, but eventually agreed to it following police persuasion.
Govind Pandey, a companion of the deceased, highlighted the dire financial situation of Vikas’s family, who are struggling to afford his last rites.
Residents have urged the police to review CCTV footage near the accident site to identify and apprehend the responsible driver.
This incident has brought to light the challenges faced by families in dealing with the aftermath of such unforeseen tragedies and the need for effective support systems.
