Community Demands Justice After East Plant Basti Shooting
The shooting of a youth in Jamshedpur’s East Plant Basti has sparked community demands for justice and support.
JAMSHEDPUR – The residents of East Plant Basti, under Burmamines police station, are reeling after the critical shooting of youth Pravesh Kumar on November 17.
Kumar is currently undergoing treatment at the Institute of Neuroscience Hospital in Kolkata, following a dispute over parking that escalated into gunfire.
The incident, captured on CCTV, revealed the involvement of Harikishan Gaur, Mohit Gaur, and Rishiraj Singh, who allegedly aided the shooter.
Confronted with mounting medical expenses for Kumar’s treatment, the family faces severe financial strain.
In response, the local community rallied together, seeking aid and justice.
They met with SSP and JMM leader Satyanarayan Gaur at the district police headquarters on Thursday, demanding relief from the fear that has gripped the area and financial assistance for the victim’s family.
Residents have reported continuous intimidation and blackmail by the accused, involving threats of weapon use and false legal accusations under the SC-ST Act.
SP Kaushal Kishore confirmed that three suspects in the case have been arrested, and efforts are underway to capture the remaining accused.
He also noted that steps are being taken to revoke the arms license of the individual responsible for the shooting.
Kishore reassured the community of the police’s commitment to their safety, emphasizing that residents need not live in fear.
This assurance comes as a crucial step in restoring a sense of security to the troubled area.
