Tata Power Institute Trains 2 Lakh in Renewable Energy Skills on World Youth Skills Day

The Tata Power Skill Development Institute has successfully trained 2 lakh students in crucial power industry skills, focusing on renewable energy sectors.

JAMSHEDPUR – In a move to commemorate World Youth Skills Day, the Tata Power Skill Development Institute (TPSDI) announces its achievement of imparting crucial and eco-friendly work skills to 2 lakh students. This aligns with the company’s philosophy, "Sustainable is Attainable," and TPSDI’s mission of equipping young individuals and others with valuable skills for employment in the renewable energy sector.

World Youth Skills Day, sponsored by the United Nations every year on 15 July, emphasizes the strategic importance of providing young people with skills needed for employment and entrepreneurship. TPSDI, with its six training hubs across India, has made significant strides in addressing talent shortages in the Indian Power Sector.

As global focus shifts towards sustainable solutions and environmental protection, green jobs are witnessing an upward trend. TPSDI acknowledges this growing need for green jobs, especially as India works towards its goal of net zero emissions by 2070 and 500 GW of renewable energy capacity.

Mr. Himal Tewari, Tata Power’s head of HR, CSR, and sustainability, stated, "We at Tata Power believe that empowering youth through skill development and capacity building leads to a brighter future. Our focus is to equip youngsters with the necessary skills for the future, providing them access to meaningful employment and entrepreneurial opportunities through specialized training in green and smart energy technologies."

TPSDI’s training program is meticulously designed for the comprehensive development of students, focusing not just on technical skills but also on numeracy skills, scientific aptitude, basic IT knowledge, effective communication, soft skills, personality development, and sector-specific safety, health, and environmental (SHE) practices.

TPSDI, an accredited member of India’s Skill Council for Green Jobs (SCGJ) and Power Sector Skill Council (PSSC), incorporates the National Skill Quality Framework (NSQF) and the TPSDI Competency Framework into its training programs. In response to India’s smart energy needs, TPSDI offers programs in Solar Photovoltaic for Electric Vehicle Charging, Installation and Maintenance of Rooftop Solar Photovoltaic, Installation of Smart Metres, and Home Automation.

In addition, TPSDI is planning to introduce courses in cutting-edge fields like artificial intelligence, machine learning, and energy consulting to ensure students stay ahead of technological developments in the energy sector. These plans are in line with India’s commitment towards the next 25 years of freedom, known as "Kartavya Kaal."
