Chilgu Tribals Protest Land Mafia, Seek Intervention in Chandil, Seraikela District
In Chandil, Seraikela district, tribal villagers held a meeting, raising concerns over land mafias forcibly stopping tribals from accessing their lands.
CHANDIL – A meeting of tribal villagers was convened under the leadership of Karan Hansda at the Chilgudih Jaherthan ground in the Chandil block of the Seraikela district.
The primary agenda of the meeting was to discuss the persistent issues of land mafias interfering with the access of tribal farmers to their lands in Chilgu rehabilitation.
The villagers expressed that in the past, these land mafias forcibly halted the tribals when they were laying siege to their endowed lands.
The villagers further explained that the land mafias are attempting to usurp the villagers’ Gauchar land and cremation ground by bribing a few individuals.
In protest, the villagers raised slogans against the land mafias.
Karan Hansda revealed that on Saturday, a delegation of villagers had submitted a memorandum to the Subdivisional Officer, demanding action against these unlawful practices.
It is noteworthy that land disputes have been recurrent in areas adjacent to the Chilgu rehabilitation site of the Chandil block.
Displaced individuals have often caused an uproar over the illegal sale and occupation of resettlement land.
On July 12, a disagreement over the siege of land at the Chilgu rehabilitation site had transpired, where the displaced had intervened in stopping people from laying siege to the land.
Chandil police had arrived at the scene upon receiving information about the case.
This recent meeting adds a new dimension to the ongoing land dispute, as the land in question is reported to be a settlement under the names of three tribals.
