Tragic Electrocution Claims Lives of Mother and Daughter in Ghatshila
60-year-old woman and her daughter in Ghatshila tragically electrocuted while hanging laundry on an iron wire.
GHATSHILA – Residents of Ghatshila were shaken by a tragic incident early this morning when a 60-year-old woman, Baso Soren, and her daughter, Malti Soren, were electrocuted while hanging laundry on an iron wire.
Witnesses to the incident, Baso Soren’s granddaughters Suman and Shabnam, recounted that their grandmother had been washing clothes and was in the process of hanging them out to dry when she suddenly fell unconscious.
In a bid to help her mother, Malti also became ensnared in the electrified wire and cloth.
Upon hearing of the incident, nearby residents rushed to the scene with wooden sticks to separate the victims from the wire.
This incident is eerily similar to one that occurred a year ago in Musabani, in which a zonal employee was electrocuted at his home.
Just a week prior, in a district-level meeting, the Deputy Commissioner had instructed the Electricity Department to create awareness about the dangers of using iron wires for drying clothes, especially in rainy conditions.
The blocks were also advised to propagate this message.
However, it appears that neither the officials from the Electricity Department nor the blocks have initiated any such publicity.
