According to reports, a team from NCPCR is scheduled to visit Dhanbad soon for further investigation into the matter.
Investigating Harassment
It has been reported that the 17-year-old girl, known as Usha Kumari, took her own life after being publicly humiliated and expelled from school for wearing a bindi.
Despite removing the bindi promptly upon seeing her teacher, she was reprimanded and slapped twice in public view during the school assembly.
Subsequently, the young student was sent to the principal’s office, leading to her expulsion.
A Fatal Decision
The incident escalated to a tragic conclusion when the girl hanged herself from the ceiling of her room at 11 am on Monday, July 10.
She left behind a suicide note found in her school uniform pocket, blaming the teacher and the school principal for her drastic action.
Upon receiving the complaint from the family, the local police lodged a First Information Report (FIR) at the Tetulmari Police Station and initiated an investigation.
Public Outrage and Response
In the wake of this tragic event, the villagers and family members of the deceased student organized a protest outside St. Xavier’s School on Tuesday, July 11.
The girl’s mother expressed her outrage at the incident, citing that despite her daughter’s immediate removal of the bindi and her attempts to explain the situation to the principal, her pleas were ignored.
