Jharkhand Teachers Protest Against Closure of Intermediates, Fear Unemployment

Jharkhand’s intermediate teachers demand the reopening of enrollment in degree colleges and adjustments to protect livelihoods amidst fears of widespread unemployment.

JAMSHEDPUR – The fear of job loss has led to a wave of protests among intermediate teachers in Jharkhand.

Opposing the closure of intermediate programs in degree colleges, these educators have initiated an aggressive agitation.

In a recent demonstration, teachers and non-teaching staff from Workers’ College in Jamshedpur collectively donned black badges and vociferously voiced their dissent against the government’s policies.

In an effort to protect their livelihoods, teachers and staff from across the state are opposing the government’s policies, demanding the commencement of 11th-grade enrollments, and asking for necessary adjustments.

Alongside, thousands of students are also fiercely protesting for their enrollments at universities across the state.

Despite the outrage, the government and officials have only provided assurances without any solid initiatives.

Notable protesters included Javed Akhtar Ansari, Suman Kumari Sinha, Rinki Bansiyar, Tajender Kaur, Reshmi Barla, Nitish Kumar, Neeraj Kumar, Saisav Sarkar, Roshan Kumar, Lali Kumari, among others.

In the wake of Jharkhand’s new education policy, intermediate studies have been ceased in 62 affiliated colleges across the state.

This has left lakhs of students from rural and urban environments in limbo, searching for opportunities to enroll.

There’s an absence of a responsible authority taking charge of the situation.

If enrollments do not commence in degree colleges, an estimated 5,000 teachers and staff across the state face potential unemployment.

These educators are urging for re-admission or readjustments in degree colleges.

Despite staging a sit-in demonstration before Raj Bhavan, no response has come from the government yet on their demands.
