Opposition From Villagers Hinders Garbage Disposal Plant Setup in East Singhbhum District
Administrative efforts to set up a garbage disposal plant in East Singhbhum district face opposition from villagers, delaying the project.
JAMSHEDPUR – The administration of East Singhbhum district is faced with a formidable challenge concerning waste disposal.
Despite identifying suitable locations, the establishment of a waste disposal plant is being stalled due to protests by local villagers.
The first attempt to construct the plant was in Khairbani.
The land was prepared, and the contractor received 30% of the project’s cost.
However, due to strong opposition from the local residents, the plan had to be scrapped.
The administration then marked a different location, but again, they were met with protests from the villagers, forcing a withdrawal.
For the third attempt, the administration decided to revert to Khairbani for the plant setup.
The contract was awarded to the son of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha’s Rajya Sabha MP, Mahua Manjhi.
However, even with the government’s order to commence work on the vertical waste disposal plant, the project couldn’t take off due to the continued opposition.
Demonstrating their disagreement, the villagers of Khairbani Panchayat staged a one-day sit-in at the Rural Deputy Commissioner’s Office, voicing their protest against the waste disposal plant.
The constant pushback from the villagers has created a significant roadblock for the administration, causing concerns about how the district will manage its waste disposal in the future.
