PM Modi Blessed by Adheenams Prior to Sengol Installation in New Parliament House

PM Narendra Modi cherishes blessings from Adheenams, emphasizing Tamil culture and the Sengol’s pivotal role in India’s democratic evolution.

DESK – On 27th May 2023, Prime Minister Narendra Modi received blessings from the Adheenams before the installation of the Sengol in the new Parliament building.

Addressing the Adheenams at his residence, the Prime Minister expressed gratitude for their presence and anticipated their participation in the inauguration of the new Parliament House.

The Prime Minister acknowledged the significant contribution of Tamil Nadu to the Indian freedom struggle, stating it as the bastion of Indian nationalism. He expressed regret over the underrecognition of Tamil contributions post-independence, emphasizing the need to rectify this oversight.

Reminiscing the power transfer symbol at the time of independence, PM Modi recognized the Sengol as a symbol of responsibility and duty.

This symbol, produced by Thiruvaduthurai Adheenam in 1947, symbolized India’s transition to a modern democracy from its rich cultural past, marking the end of hundreds of years of slavery. The Prime Minister regretted that the Sengol was reduced to a walking stick exhibit at Anand Bhawan in Prayagraj, but celebrated its deserved place in the new Parliament House, terming it a “temple of democracy.

PM Modi commended Adheenam’s tradition as a living embodiment of divine energy and praised the spirit of ‘Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat’ inherent in their philosophy.

The Prime Minister also referenced the significant role of the Adheenams in preserving the vibrant Tamil culture despite years of slavery.

As the nation sets goals for the next 25 years, the Prime Minister emphasized the crucial role of the Adheenams in achieving a strong, self-reliant, inclusive, and developed India by its 100th independence anniversary in 2047.
