CHANDIL – A pregnant female elephant was discovered dead in suspicious circumstances in the Ichagarh area of Seraikela district on Sunday morning.
The incident occurred near Kutam village, where locals found the elephant’s body near the forest, causing widespread concern in the region.
Upon receiving the information, forest department officials from the Chandil Range reached the site.
Veterinarians conducted a post-mortem and retrieved an unborn calf from the elephant’s womb, but the calf could not be saved.
The exact cause of the elephant’s death remains unclear.
A forensic team has been summoned to investigate further.
The female elephant is believed to have been around 20 years old.
Locals reported that a large herd of elephants was seen roaming near Kutam village the previous night.
This marks the second incident of an elephant’s death in the area within the last three months.
Thousands of people from the surrounding areas flocked to the site, with many offering prayers to the deceased elephant throughout the day.
The local community is deeply concerned about the increasing number of elephant deaths in the region.
