Internet services restored in Jamshedpur after 19 hours

Internet shutdown is effective in restoring normalcy, but affects business and normal life adversely, people seen asking – ‘net kab wapas aayega?’

Jamshedpur: Internet services were restored in Jamshedpur after around 19 hours in the wake of communal disturbance in Kadma Shashtri Nagar area on Sunday.

Jamshedpur and its surrounding areas were hit hard by an internet blackout that lasted for almost 19 hours.

Following disturbances in the city, the administration ordered the shutdown of internet services for all mobile companies, except for BSNL, from around 1:17 pm on Sunday night.

Internet services were restored on Monday evening around 6:15 pm.

The shutdown of internet services caused a major inconvenience for the people of Jamshedpur, with many struggling to carry out their daily tasks.

Mobile money transfer schemes were stalled, leading to a significant impact on financial transactions.

Many individuals who relied on mobiles to purchase essential commodities were left without options, while businesses that relied on home delivery suffered significant losses.

Furthermore, health services were also affected, with the work of telemedicine coming to a complete standstill.

The exchange of important emails and messages was also impacted, making communication difficult for many individuals.

The shutdown also had a significant impact on social media use.

Many people were left completely cut off from their loved ones due to the inability to access WhatsApp and other social media platforms.

According to reports, many banks were also affected by the internet shutdown, although some were able to continue their work through internal arrangements and leased lines.

The shutdown of internet services resulted in losses of crores of rupees for many companies. The closure also made it impossible for individuals to keep themselves updated on global events through social media platforms.

While the internet shutdown was put in place to restore calm in the city, it caused significant disruption to daily life and underscored the growing reliance on technology in modern society.

However, there were many who felt that sutting down the internet was effective in cutting down on rumor mongering and it helped the administration control the situation effectively within a short time.
