PV Sindhu wins bronze, hockey team enters semi-finals

Desk: PV Sindhu created history at Tokyo Olympics Sunday by becoming the first Indian woman to win two individual medals at Olympics. Sunday proved to be a cheerful day for India as first Sindhu and then the Manpreet Singh-led hockey team brought some happy news to Indian sports lovers.

P V Sindhu beat her Chinese opponent in straight sets to win a bronze.

She has now become the only Indian woman to win two medals in badminton.

The hockey team, on the other hand, defeated Great Britain 3-1 to make it to the semi-final for the first time after 1980.

Now, on Monday morning, the Rani Rampal-led side would take on a formidable Australian side in the quarter-finals.

Earlier in the day, PV Sindhu scripted history on Sunday as she defeated He Bing Jiao of China to become the first Indian woman to win two individual Olympic medals.

Sindhu routed He Bing Jiao 21-13 and 21-15 in the bronze medal match.

Sindhu was precise and forceful throughout the game and didn’t give her opponent any opportunity in the match.

Earlier, Sindhu had suffered a heart-breaking loss to world no.1 Tai Tzu Ying in the semi-final on Saturday. Sindhu lost the semi-final 18-21, 12-21.

The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi has congratulated P V Sindhu for winning the Bronze medal in Badminton at Tokyo Olympics 2020.

The Prime Minister also said that she is India’s pride and one of our most outstanding Olympians.

In a tweet, the Prime Minister said: “We are all elated by the stellar performance by @Pvsindhu1. Congratulations to her on winning the Bronze at @Tokyo2020. She is India’s pride and one of our most outstanding Olympians. #Tokyo2020”
