Jamshedpur: Tata Steel organised the 2nd edition of SHE Excellence Awards 2021 for recognizing the contribution of the torchbearers, evangelists and super sustainability champions in the journey of Safety, Health and Sustainability.

The event organised on the virtual platform was attended by the senior management and employees of Tata Steel, Tata Steel BSL, Tata Steel Long Products and Associated Group Companies.

Speaking on the occasion as Chief Guest of the award ceremony, T V Narendran, CEO & Managing Director, Tata Steel said: “Achieving Zero Harm will be the biggest achievement for Tata Steel and I am sure we can achieve this by using systems and technology. We need to strive towards becoming a role model in safety.”

Koushik Chatterjee, Executive Director & CFO, Tata Steel talked about the environmental concerns across the world and urged everyone to focus on long-term and short-term plans for adoption of newer standards, better ways of compliance and ensuring adoption of technology and digital to comply with and be ahead of the curve.

Sanjiv Paul, Vice President, Safety, Health & Sustainability, Tata Steel set the context and gave the background of the SHE Excellence Awards and its evaluation process.

He said that this kind of reward and recognition will help in shaping the desired culture in the organization that will ultimately help the company to achieve its vision of being a global steel industry benchmark in value creation and corporate citizenship.

All the Vice Presidents shared their views on the importance of Safety, Health and Environment. They also talked about the ongoing concerns and the strategies to overcome them in the future.

Neeraj Kumar Sinha, Chief Safety, Tata Steel talked about the initiatives that has been taken to achieve the balance between workplace safety and business continuity during the COVID-19 pandemic. He also briefed about the Safety performance of the company and current concerns.

Amit Ranjan Chakraborty, Chief Environment, Tata Steel stressed upon the responsible use and protection of the environment through resource conservation, pollution control and sustainable practices at Tata Steel works as well as in the communities.

Madhulika Sharma, Chief Sustainability, Tata Steel elaborated on the Super Sustainability Champion Awards and its evaluation process.

She said that this award has been introduced this year with a purpose to motivate the sustainability champions for their remarkable contribution in creating a sustainability culture amongst the internal and external stakeholders, and also for facilitating sustainability projects in their functions.
