11000v wire snaps and falls on villagers taking bath in check-dam in Pipla, 4 die

Deceased include 3 minors and 1 woman, MP Bidyut Mahato rushes to MGMCH, demands Rs. 10 lakh compensation to each family

Jamshedpur: In a tragic incident, 4 persons including a 70-year-old woman and 3 minor children died due to electrocution after a 11000 volt overhead wire snapped and fell on a check-dam them in Pipla, East Singhbhum. That check-dam is used by villagers for bathing purpose.

Pipla is situated some 5 km away from Big Bazar in Mango. As the 11000 V overhead wire snapped in Pipla, it fell on unaware villagers taking bath in the nearby check-dam. Several persons were injured in the incident due to electrocution. They were rushed to MGMCH for treatment. However, the team of doctors present there declared them brought dead.

Those who succumbed to injuries were identified as Rohit Mahato, 13; Kamal Mahato, 18; Vimal Mahato, 16; and Fulo Devi Mahato, 70.

All the deceased were seriously injured in the incident and were rushed to MGMCH. However, they succumbed to their injuries on the way.

Bidyut Mahato, MP, Jamshedpur rushed to MGMCH after receiving information about the accident. He enquired about the persons injured in the accident.

There is weekend lockdown in entire Jharkhand since yesterday. The lockdown is being observed strictly even in Jamshedpur.

However, the information received from Pipla shocked the entire city as a 11000v overhead wire fell into a nearby check-dam where villagers regularly bathe.

The incident sent a wave of shock and grief throughout the area.

Sources said that all the deceased were taking bath in the nearby check-dam. Two of the deceased were identified as brothers.

Soon after receiving information, Jamshedpur MP and Jugsalai MLA Mangal Kalindi reached MGMCH. They consoled the grieving families and demanded Rs. 10 lakh compensation to each affected family.

The MP said that he had requested the Deputy Commissioner to get the overhead wires changed in different areas, yet nothing was done in this connection. Blaming the negligence of Jharkhand government and the electricity department, he demanded Rs. 10 lakh compensation to each family.

He also gave Rs. 10 thousand to the affected families as an immediate aid.

The Jugsalai MLA Mangal Kalindi too described the incident as a result of negligence of electricity department and said that adequate compensation should be paid to the families.

Angry villagers have blocked the NH33 soon after the incident. Officials are trying to persuade them to lift the blockade.
