Seraikela Police Apprehend Six in Abhijeet Steel Plant Scrap Theft

Seraikela police arrest six individuals stealing scrap from the closed Abhijeet Steel Plant. Two pickup vans carrying stolen materials were seized.

JAMSHEDPUR – In a concerted move against an ongoing crime, the Seraikela police station’s patrol party arrested six individuals who were found stealing scrap cable wires from the closed Abhijeet Steel Company’s facility in Burudih, Kharsawan.

Two pickup vans laden with the stolen materials were seized during the operation.

According to sources, around 10-12 people were seen heading towards Adityapur with two pickup vans loaded with cable wires cut from the shut-down Abhijeet Steel Plant late on Friday night.

Sugalal Singh, a police officer from the Seraikela night patrol team, noticed the two suspicious vans near Gutu Sahi village.

Despite attempts to escape when signaled to stop, the police pursued and apprehended the vans.

During the ensuing check, a significant quantity of cable wires was discovered in the vehicles. While six individuals were caught, around five managed to evade capture taking advantage of the night’s darkness.

The captured individuals confessed to their involvement in ongoing thefts from the closed Abhijeet Steel Plant, and selling the stolen materials to a scrap shop in Adityapur.

An FIR has been lodged against the six apprehended individuals and another case has been registered against five unidentified thieves.

Seraikela police station in-charge Nitish Kumar confirmed that the arrested thieves were residents of Jamshedpur Jugsalai and have been identified as Md J, Md R, Md A, and Md E. Efforts are currently underway to capture the remaining suspects.

Despite previous instances of similar thefts being intercepted, the theft of scrap from the closed Abhijeet Steel Plant continues.

Estimates suggest that scrap worth crores has already been stolen from the site.
