Police Bust Inter-State Bike Theft Gang in Chaibasa

Seven Stolen Motorcycles, Scooty Recovered, Three Held

CHAIBASA – Police in West Singhbhum carried out a major crackdown on Saturday against an inter-state motorcycle theft gang operating in the Badajamda OP area. The action followed a tip received by the Superintendent of Police, West Singhbhum, indicating that five to six suspects were planning to use stolen motorcycles for snatching and theft.

A joint team from Badajamda, Kiriburu and Noamundi police stations was formed under the leadership of the Sub-Divisional Police Officer, Kiriburu, on the orders of the SP. The team launched a search operation soon after.

Officers searched the house of Dayal Kumar Nag in Tankosai, the residence of Sandeep Pinguwa in Noamundi, and bushes near the Lal Building area in Badajamda where motorcycles had reportedly been hidden. Seven stolen motorcycles and scooters of various companies were recovered during the raids.

Three of the six accused named in the case were arrested, while three juveniles in conflict with law were also taken into custody. During questioning, the accused admitted to using the stolen two-wheelers to carry out snatching, theft and assault incidents in the region.

Police identified Dayal Kumar Nag, alias Mangal, and Sandeep Pinguwa, alias Poti or Titli, as the alleged masterminds of the gang. Both have prior records and had been jailed earlier, according to police.

The arrested accused include 20-year-old Dayal Kumar Nag of Badajamda, 25-year-old Sandeep Pinguwa of Noamundi, and 19-year-old Bandi Das of Bhattisai in Badajamda. A case has been registered against them at Badajamda police station under case number 20/2026, dated June 20, 2026, invoking Section 317(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Proceedings are underway to send all accused to judicial custody.

The recovered vehicles include five Hero Honda Splendor motorcycles, one Honda Livo motorcycle and one Honda Activa scooter. The raid team comprised Sub-Divisional Police Officer Kiriburu Vineet Kumar Kido, Badajamda OP in-charge Baleshwar Oraon, Kiriburu police station in-charge Rohit Kumar, Noamundi police station in-charge Nayan Kumar, along with other police personnel and armed force jawans from Badajamda, Kiriburu and Noamundi.
