Chakradharpur Issues Eviction Notices to Riverside Colony Dwellers

37 Families in Patu Colony Face Displacement After 80-Year Settlement

Key Points:

  • Chakradharpur officials target encroachments on water bodies and riverbanks
  • Patu Colony residents given 7-day notice to vacate 80-year-old settlement
  • Rani Talab shrinks from 9 to 7 acres due to illegal encroachments

CHAKRADHARPUR – The district administration has initiated action against encroachments on water bodies, with 37 families in Patu Colony receiving eviction notices.

The notices stem from a Jharkhand High Court order targeting encroachments. Meanwhile, affected residents have submitted written explanations to the circle office.

Residents’ Plea

The colony dwellers have highlighted their 80-year history beside the Sanjay River. “We’ve been paying holding tax and have electricity connections,” stated a local resident.

Moreover, the families pointed to government-provided infrastructure in the area. The settlement includes members from tribal and OBC communities.

Water Body Protection

The Urban Development Department has ordered identification of encroachments. Officials will use original maps to mark illegal constructions near water bodies.

In addition, authorities plan strict action against waste disposal in water bodies. The initiative aims to protect natural water resources.

Impact Assessment

The historic Rani Talab has lost two acres to encroachment. Furthermore, the connected canal system has narrowed significantly.

On the other hand, residents face flooding during monsoons. The affected families have requested land settlement in their names.
