Search Underway for 23-Year-Old Who Slipped into Deep Waters near Jayda Temple in Seraikela

JAMSHEDPUR – A 23-year-old youth from Jamshedpur’s Sonari area went missing on Monday evening after he drowned in the Swarnarekha River near Jayda temple in Chandil subdivision of Seraikela district.
The missing youth has been identified as Prem Kumar. He was a resident of Adarsh Colony under the Sonari police station area of Jamshedpur.
Kumar had gone to the river along with his friends. The group was bathing near the Jayda temple ghat. However, he drifted into deep water and disappeared beneath the surface within moments.
On receiving information, Chauka police rushed to the spot. Meanwhile, the Swarnarekha river has witnessed similar tragedies in the past. A search operation was launched with the help of local residents.
Police and locals combed the river and surrounding areas for an extended period. In contrast, their efforts yielded no results. Kumar’s whereabouts remained unknown till late in the evening.
The Chandil area falls under Seraikela district’s Chauka police station jurisdiction. The search mission has been continuing without a break. Drowning incidents during river bathing have remained a recurring concern across Jharkhand. Besides, similar incidents have also been reported in Bokaro in recent weeks.
On the other hand, Kumar’s family members broke down upon hearing the news. A pall of gloom descended over his neighbourhood. River drowning deaths of young men bathing in groups have raised concern across the state.
The Seraikela district police have continued their search operations. A reliable source said, “The deep waters in this stretch of the river make the recovery of a missing person extremely difficult.” The Chauka area has seen several mishap-related tragedies in recent times.
