JAMSHEDPUR — A heated argument over a helmet rule at the main gate of Tata Main Hospital spiralled into a fistfight on Tuesday, throwing the busy entrance into chaos for a considerable period.
A young man had arrived at the hospital to discharge his ailing father, who was admitted as a patient. At the gate, a security guard reportedly stopped him over non-compliance with the helmet rule. The exchange quickly turned acrimonious.
Within moments, the verbal spat escalated into a physical altercation between the two. Bystanders present at the scene grew visibly agitated at the conduct of the security personnel.
An angry crowd gathered swiftly at the hospital entrance. They raised slogans against the security guard and blocked the main gate, disrupting the movement of vehicles and visitors for a period of time.
Police received information about the disturbance and reached the spot promptly. Officers pacified the crowd and persuaded them to clear the blockade. Normal movement at the gate was subsequently restored.
Meanwhile, police are questioning both parties involved in the altercation. A full investigation into the sequence of events is currently underway.
Incidents of public confrontations at key institutions in Jamshedpur have drawn increasing attention in recent months. Tata Main Hospital, being one of the busiest medical facilities in the region, sees a large daily footfall of patients and attendants.
