IndiGo flight chaos sparks anger at Ranchi airport

Repeated cancellations leave fliers stranded again

Key Points:

  • IndiGo flights face repeated cancellations in Ranchi
  • Hongkong family stuck due to delays and loss
  • Travellers report steep rise in rival ticket fares

RANCHI – Fresh disruption hit Ranchi airport as repeated IndiGo cancellations trapped several passengers.

Frequent delays at the Birsa Munda Airport triggered strong protests. Moreover, many travellers blamed poor coordination for rising distress.

However, the latest disruption hit a Hongkong family returning after a wedding event.

Priti Choudhary and her husband Subhash waited with their two children. Their first Ranchi via Delhi to Hongkong flight was cancelled on December 4.

However, they reached the terminal again today and saw another IndiGo cancellation.

Officials told them to wait until December 8. Moreover, the family feared job trouble as both work in corporate roles in Hongkong.

They said their leave has ended. Besides, they may face salary issues for missing work.

They have already spent nearly ₹2,00,000 on tickets. Meanwhile, other stranded fliers raised similar concerns.

Travellers said that fares of other airlines have now jumped two to three times.

However, airport users demanded stable operations soon. “We feel helpless after every delay,” said a distressed passenger.

In addition, the airport has recently seen major route updates. These include new links to Goa and Jaipur.

However, delays have also pushed back some planned services.

For instance, expansion plans for new routes faced hurdles.

Further, December schedules for Goa flights saw revisions.

Moreover, past updates on route additions noted rising traffic.

In addition, the state recently saw a new service connect Mumbai with Deoghar.

Finally, the expansion of Digi Yatra added more digital upgrades.
