RANCHI – Three policemen were recovered dead from Dhurwa Dam on Saturday morning as Ranchi police launched a full investigation into the late-night mishap.
The bodies were found in the Nagra jurisdiction. However, officers confirmed two of the deceased as the bodyguards of the Jamshedpur Principal District Judge.
They were identified as Upendra Kumar Singh and Robin Kujur. Moreover, the third victim was their government driver.
The driver’s identity has not been fully established. On the other hand, police seized two weapons from the bank.
They also retrieved a severely damaged vehicle submerged in the dam.
Investigators suspect the car lost control during the night. Besides, the vehicle appears to have plunged straight into the reservoir.
Police rushed to the spot after receiving a distress call and recovered the bodies with the help of local teams.
The bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination. Meanwhile, officers are gathering forensic evidence from the site.
They are also looking for a possible fourth missing person believed to be in the water.
The incident drew attention to earlier water-body cases in the region. Observers recalled a past recovery near Chotabanki Dam.
They also noted recent findings in the Dhurwa area itself.
In addition, comparisons were drawn with earlier drowning cases reviewed by state leaders.
Local accounts referenced other Ranchi incidents handled by the district police.
Furthermore, links were made to Patratu Dam accidents involving submerged vehicles.
