  • Police begin probe; postmortem report awaited for confirmation

JAMSHEDPUR – A 23-year-old youth identified as Chintu Kumar ended his life by hanging himself at his home near Bagbera Thana More in Jamshedpur. The tragic incident occurred after his girlfriend allegedly refused to marry him following family pressure, police said.

According to preliminary reports, Chintu, who worked at a petrol pump, locked himself inside his room on Monday evening while loud music played from within. When he did not respond to repeated calls, his family members broke open the door and found him hanging from the ceiling. He was rushed first to Rajasthan Seva Sadan Hospital and later to Tata Main Hospital (TMH), where doctors declared him dead on arrival.

Police from Bagbera police station reached the spot soon after receiving the information. The body was sent for postmortem on Tuesday, and later handed over to the family after completing legal formalities.

Chintu’s brother, Pintu Kumar, said that his sibling had been in a relationship with a girl from Gandhi Nagar, Bagbera, for about two and a half years. The two reportedly wished to marry and had even introduced the girl to the family, which had accepted the relationship. However, things took a turn when the girl’s mother, influenced by neighbors, suddenly withdrew her consent and began arranging her daughter’s marriage elsewhere.

Pintu said that after this, the girl stopped communicating with Chintu and even blocked his number. “My brother was cheerful and full of life. But after the girl stopped talking to him, he became quiet and withdrawn. We thought he would recover, but he couldn’t handle the rejection,” he said.

Police have registered a case of unnatural death (UD case) and are investigating all possible angles, including the possibility of external provocation. Officials said that the exact cause of death would be confirmed after the postmortem report.

The incident has left the neighborhood in deep shock. Locals visited the family’s home throughout the day, consoling the grieving relatives. The area remained enveloped in silence and mourning after the young man’s untimely death.
