JAMSHEDPUR – Rajeev Mishra, spokesperson of East Singhbhum Congress, opposed the US decision to place India on its list of drug trafficking nations.

Mishra said the step taken by President Donald Trump was deeply unfortunate. He argued that the move harmed the image of the world’s largest democracy on the global stage.

He pointed out that India had consistently opposed narcotics trade at international forums. Moreover, he said the country had taken several key initiatives against illegal drugs. Therefore, he termed the US action objectionable and unacceptable.

According to Mishra, the decision could hurt the Indian diaspora in America. “NRIs are known for hard work, honesty, and contributions worldwide. Such steps affect their dignity and may harm their social and business standing,” he said.

He urged the Indian government to act immediately with firm diplomacy. He added that New Delhi must register its protest strongly with Washington.

Mishra further stressed that India’s pride and honor should never be compromised. He reminded that Congress has always stood for protecting national prestige. He also said the party expects the Centre to adopt a strong position on the issue.
