Over 5.69 Lakh Children Targeted in Districtwide Health Campaign

Key Points:

  • Albendazole to be given on September 15 in schools and Anganwadis
  • Mop-up round scheduled for September 19 for missed beneficiaries
  • Target set to cover 5,69,393 children and adolescents aged 1–19

JAMSHEDPUR – East Singhbhum district will observe National Deworming Day on September 15, when albendazole tablets will be distributed across all educational and training institutions, including Anganwadi centers.

A review meeting of the District Coordination Committee was held at the Collectorate auditorium under the chairmanship of Deputy Development Commissioner Nagendra Paswan, following directives of Deputy Commissioner K. Satyarthi. Civil Surgeon Dr. Sahir Pal, DRCHO Dr. Ranjit Panda, DSE Ashish Pandey, MOICs, CDPOs, and officials from education, health, and social welfare departments were present.

Civil Surgeon Dr. Pal informed that albendazole would be administered in government and private schools, ITIs, polytechnic institutes, and Anganwadi centers. A mop-up round on September 19 will ensure coverage of children missed earlier. The district has set a target of 5,69,393 children and adolescents in the 1–19 age group.

Deputy Development Commissioner Paswan emphasized that deworming is critical to children’s health, nutrition, and growth. He noted that worm infections adversely impact hemoglobin levels, nutrition, and intellectual development. “Regular intake of albendazole can effectively control worm infections,” he said.

He directed health, education, social welfare departments, and NGOs to work in coordination. ANMs, Sahiyas, and Anganwadi workers will play a key role in implementing the program to ensure maximum reach and success.
