  • AITUC president flags issues of wages, safety, and privatization threats
  • Union leaders from eight states share concerns and experiences

JAMSHEDPUR – A two-day national seminar on labor rights was held at Michael John Auditorium in Jamshedpur under the banner of INSMEEF.

The event witnessed a large gathering of union leaders and representatives from across India. On the first day, several sessions focused on critical issues such as wages, job security, and labor codes.

AITUC national president G. Sabjiwa Reddy attended as the chief guest. He expressed concern over workers’ challenges including minimum wages, lack of safety standards, inflation, and social security gaps.

However, he stressed that labor rights could only be protected if all unions acted together. “Workers’ voices will be strong only when unions unite,” he said during his address.

Meanwhile, discussions highlighted five urgent themes:

  • The need to revise minimum wages and dearness allowance
  • The impact of new labor codes on workers
  • Job insecurity caused by privatization and corporatization
  • Health and safety at industrial workplaces
  • Equal opportunities and protection for women workers

Union leaders from Jharkhand, Bihar, Odisha, West Bengal, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, and Andhra Pradesh participated. They shared experiences from their regions and emphasized the importance of a national strategy for labor movements.

The seminar provided a platform for dialogue among federations and aimed to shape future labor struggles.
