Key Points:
- Police arrest Vicky Singh, main accused in Rahul Baccha murder case, from Birsanagar
- Victim was beaten to death near a mazar on Gurudwara Road in Mango on July 8
- Four other accused already in judicial custody before latest arrest
JAMSHEDPUR – Police have arrested the main accused in the killing of Rahul Singh, alias Rahul Baccha, whose murder near a mazar on Gurudwara Road in the Mango police station area had drawn wide attention. The accused, Vicky Singh, alias Appa Rao, alias Ballu, 24, was picked up from the Birsanagar police station area on July 12.
Rahul Baccha was attacked with sticks, stones and wood around 7:30 pm on July 8 before he succumbed to his injuries. His brother’s statement led to a First Information Report being lodged at the Mango police station. Given the seriousness of the case, the Senior Superintendent of Police ordered the formation of a Special Investigation Team under the supervision of the Superintendent of Police (Town), led by Assistant Superintendent of Police (Headquarters-1) Rishabh Trivedi.
Vicky Singh had reportedly been changing his location repeatedly to evade arrest. A dedicated team eventually tracked him down using a combination of technical surveillance and human intelligence before detaining him on July 12.
Police had earlier arrested four other men in connection with the case — Saheb Singh, alias Sabbe; Saurabh Dutta, alias Bengali; Aftab Ali Baba; and Amarjeet Prasad, alias Pandey — and sent them to judicial custody. Investigators are treating the arrest of the main accused as a significant breakthrough in the case, similar to earlier successes such as when Kowali police cracked the Jamda murder case and when Rajnagar police solved a separate murder case with one arrest.
During interrogation, Vicky Singh admitted his involvement in the killing. Investigators found that he already had multiple criminal cases registered against him. In 2022, a case of theft and possession of stolen property was filed against him at the Sidhgora police station. In 2023, he was booked in the Mango police station area under several serious sections, including obstruction of government work and attempt to murder. A separate case was registered against him in 2025 under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
The Jamshedpur police said the arrest forms part of a broader crackdown on repeat offenders in the district, following similar operations such as the recent jewellery heist investigation in Mango and a string of past murder cases resolved by city police teams.
