JAMSHEDPUR – In a landmark judgment, the Jamshedpur district court awarded ₹20,75,245 as compensation to the dependents of Ranjan Kumar Singh, who tragically lost his life in a motor accident in January 2023.

The incident took place at Sidhgora’s Litti Chowk, where a speeding and reckless scooter collided with Singh’s vehicle. Succumbing to his injuries, Singh passed away on January 20, 2023. Following this, his family sought justice through legal proceedings, represented by advocate Ravishankar Pandey.

Compensation Distribution

The compensation of ₹20.75 lakh has been divided among Singh’s dependents: 50% for his wife Reema Devi, 25% for his father Raghav Singh, and 25% for his minor son, Veer Pratap Singh. The court also mandated ICICI Lombard Insurance Company to pay the amount within 30 days, with an annual interest rate of 7.5%.

Advocate Ravishankar Pandey acknowledged the court’s sensitivity and efficiency in handling the case. “This decision is crucial for maintaining the morale of the victim’s family and highlights the judicial system’s role in ensuring justice,” he remarked.

Case Background

The accident occurred on January 19, 2023, when Singh was struck by a speeding scooter at Litti Chowk, Sidhgora. His family filed a claim with the Motor Vehicle Accident Claim Tribunal (MVACT) in the Jamshedpur district court. The case, numbered 109/2023, saw timely intervention by the judiciary, setting a benchmark for similar cases.

Court’s Directive

The court emphasized the responsibility of the insurance company, as the vehicle involved was insured under ICICI Lombard Motor Insurance. The judgment underlines the importance of fair compensation in accident cases to support bereaved families.
