Three Local Artists Win Ministry of Culture Fellowships for Chhau Art

Mask Maker, Two Dance Gurus Selected for Research in Traditional Dance Form

SERAIKELA – The Ministry of Culture has awarded fellowships to three local artists for research in Chhau dance.

Young artist Sumit Kumar Mohapatra received the junior fellowship for mask making. Meanwhile, two senior gurus earned fellowships.

Mask Making Excellence

Mohapatra trained under Guru Sushant Mohapatra at Kala Diksha. Moreover, his masks have reached distinguished leaders.

“This fellowship helps preserve our family tradition,” a local artist noted. Additionally, Mohapatra’s work showcases exceptional craftsmanship.

Senior Experts Recognized

Guru Tapan Patnaik specializes in Seraikela Chhau style. Meanwhile, Guru Paresh Prasad Parit masters Manbhum style.

Patnaik formerly directed State Chhau Nritya Kala Kendra. Furthermore, both gurus have performed internationally.

Cultural Heritage

The fellowships strengthen local artistic traditions. However, they also promote research in traditional dance forms.

Both selected gurus have extensive teaching experience. Additionally, they contribute significantly to cultural preservation.
