SERAIKELA – A tragic discovery by the Kharkai River’s new bridge early Wednesday led to an intense police investigation. A 24-year-old man, identified as Uttam Mohanty, was found dead, alarming locals and prompting an immediate response from authorities.
Initial findings reveal that Mohanty, originally from Kolabaria, had been living in a rented home in Seraikela while working as a street vendor selling noodles. The body was spotted by locals near the riverbank, who quickly informed the Seraikela police.
Family Alleges Foul Play
Relatives of the deceased, including his uncle Raju Mohanty, claim the injuries observed suggest deliberate harm. “The abrasions on his chest, back, and waist indicate he was killed and dragged before being dumped in the river,” said Raju, expressing disbelief at suggestions of accidental drowning.
Police Investigation Underway
Seraikela police, led by Officer Satish Barnwal, have stated that while initial impressions suggest drowning, the exact cause of death will only be determined after the post-mortem report. “We are examining all angles,” Barnwal assured, emphasizing their commitment to a thorough investigation.
Meanwhile, grief has engulfed the family, with members inconsolable over their loss. Authorities have assured the public of swift action and transparency in their findings.
