JAMSHEDPUR – Ghagidih Jail Administration has partnered with Hindustan Petroleum to launch petrol pumps employing former inmates.
The initiative aims to provide rehabilitation opportunities. Meanwhile, the jail administration is processing required licenses.
The program will begin near Ghagidih Central Jail. Moreover, Sakchi Jail will also get a petrol pump.
Land details are being sought from district officials. Furthermore, plot maps are under review.
Extensive Training Plans
The administration will provide specialized training to selected candidates. Meanwhile, they must show good conduct records.
The project envisions 99 petrol pumps across locations. However, initial focus remains on jail premises.
Ghatsila Sub-Jail may join the initiative later. Moreover, experts appreciate this rehabilitation approach.
Existing Rehabilitation Programs
A prisoner-operated bakery already functions successfully. Meanwhile, inmates also produce handloom items.
The jail runs an aluminum utensil manufacturing unit. Furthermore, prisoners earn money for post-release use.
“This initiative ensures dignified livelihood opportunities,” says Ajay Kumar Prajapati, Jail Superintendent. Meanwhile, similar programs show positive results nationwide.
